Windrush Church

Who we are

Windrush church is an emerging 6th congregation in the benefice that primarily serves the new communities on the Windrush Place and Colwell Green new housing developments in West Witney. It is a Baptist/ Anglican partnership supported by an ecumenical team with members from Churches across the town. The team also includes those who are exploring faith. We are part of the Church of England's Oxford Diocese initiative ‘Green Houses’ and the Southern Counties Baptist Association

Worship

Meeting in the new Windrush Church of England Primary School we have a Messy Church on the first Sunday of the month which attracts between 20 and 30 families from the estates. It is our intention in 2024 and 2025 to develop other fresh expressions of worship at the school.

We running an Alpha course in February & March 2024.

Serving our community

Led by our Pioneer minister Rev. Jacky Bone the team do events throughout the year. This includes a weekly toddler group at the school, fun days and events, especially at festival times such as Christmas and Easter. An annual teddy bears picnic, and activities for children in the summer are very popular. We also hold regular socials for the community at a local pub.

We work closely with West Oxfordshire District Council and the Witney town council currently working alongside a community artist employed by WODC. We administrate one of the local face book sites Windrush Community page for the development, trying to connect those living in the community with each other and with the town.

We have an allotment site in the Windrush allotments and do our best to grow and share vegetables!

Rev Jacky is also a chair of the local Witney community fridge and through it we are able to help those in need on the development as well as helping reduce waste food.
