What is Lent?

Lent in the Church of England is a solemn season of 40 days (excluding Sundays) leading up to Easter, beginning on Ash Wednesday and ending on Holy Saturday. It is a time of reflection, repentance, and spiritual discipline, inspired by Jesus’ 40 days of fasting in the wilderness. Many Christians observe Lent by fasting, giving up certain luxuries, engaging in prayer, and focusing on acts of charity. The season encourages deeper faith, self-examination, and preparation for the celebration of Christ’s resurrection on Easter Sunday.
